Demerara River Bridge Project Contract Signed between Chinese CRCC Company and Ministry of Public Works of Guyana

On May 25, witnessed by H.E. Chinese Ambassador to Guyana Guo Haiyan and Eight (8) Guyanese Ministers, the business contract of the Demerara River Bridge Project was signed in Georgetown. Counselor Hu Hanming, Financial Secretary, Permanent Secretary of MoPW and representatives from all walks of life of Guyana also attended the ceremony.

Ambassador Guo pointed out that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the two countries. In the past 50 years, our pragmatic cooperation has yielded fruitful results and brought tangible benefits to the two countries and the two peoples. The Chinese government encourages competent Chinese companies to cooperate with Guyanese partners, to make their contribution to the economic and social development of Guyana. With joint efforts of both sides, we can further expand our pragmatic cooperation in all fields, and let the outcomes of the win-win cooperation better benefit the two countries and the two peoples.

Hon. Minister of Public Works Edghill described this signing as a landmark in Guyana's history. Hon. Senior Minister with Responsibility for Finance Singh said that this is the largest public transportation infrastructure project ever in Guyana's history, and this brief signing ceremony marks a historic moment for Guyana.

It is hoped that with the efforts of all relevant parties, the project can be smoothly constructed and delivered as planned.

The ceremony were also attended by Hon. Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs Nandalall, Hon. Minister of Home Affairs Benn, Hon. Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce Walrond, Hon. Minister of Education Manikchand, Hon. Minister within the Office of the Prime Minister McCoy, and Hon. Minister within the Ministry of Public Works Indar.
