On January 25, witnessed by Chinese Ambassador to Guyana H.E. Guo Haiyan, Foreign Secretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Guyana Mr. Robert M. Persaud and Permanent Secretary at the Office of the President Ms. Abena Moore, the Implementation Agreement of the China-aided China-Guyana Friendship Joe Vieira Park Project was signed by Chinese Economic and Commercial Counselor Mr. Hu Hanming and Guyanese Commissioner of the Protected Areas Commission Mr. Jason Fraser on behalf of the two sides.

In her brief remarks, Amb. Guo says that China has been always cherishing the friendship with Guyana. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1972, substantial progress has been made in cooperation in various fields and bilateral friendship has been continuously consolidated. In order to celebrate the longstanding friendship between China and Guyana and carry it forward from generation to generation, the two governments agreed to build a friendship-themed park with Chinese aid. Taking the 50th Anniversary as an ideal opportunity, the Embassy is willing to work hand in hand with Guyanese friends, to deepen coordination between the Belt and Road Initiative and the Low Carbon Development Strategy 2030, to further expand pragmatic cooperation and people to people exchanges in all fields, ensuring that the outcomes of the win-win cooperation better benefit two countries and peoples, and strengthening mutual understanding and friendship between two peoples.

Mr. Persaud says that Guyana always adheres to the One-China Policy and considers China as a reliable development partner in a number of initiatives and the project is the commencement of a comprehensive programme of celebrations.
