On November 10th, Chinese Ambassador Mrs. Guo Haiyan, at the invitation from Director General, Colonel (Retired) Nazrul Hussain of Guyana Civil Defence Commission (CDC), attended the El Niño Preparedness and Response Outreach to 5 primary schools in Region 4. Staff of the CDC, NDC officials, school teachers and hundreds of students attended.

Mr. Nazrul Hussain and his staff members handed over water dispensers, fire extinguishers and bottled water to the schools, sensitized students of the impacts of the current drought, and delivered short lectures on what El Niño entails and what people can do to save water resources and protect themselves. 

Ambassador Guo interacted with the teachers and students, and presented souvenirs from China to the students. The equipment distributed is financed by disaster prevention and mitigation funds sponsored by Chinese Government.
