12 Guyanese awarded scholarships to study in China

On August 26, the Chinese Embassy in Guyana held an Award Ceremony for Chinese Scholarship Winners 2022. Ambassador Guo Haiyan, together with Hon. Sonia Parag, Minister of Public Service of Guyana, and Mr. Forbes July, Director of Department of International Cooperation of MoFA&IC, attended and addressed the event. Economic and Commercial Councilor Hu Hanming moderated the ceremony. Nearly 40 persons, including Guyanese government officials, scholarship winners, representatives of previous scholarship recipients were present.

This year, 9 scholarships are provided by China’s central government through China Scholarship Council, and 3 by Jiangsu provincial government. The scholarships are for a variety of academic disciplines ranging from studies in medicine, politics, finance, economics, psychology and sports rehabilitation.

Since the signing of the cultural agreement between the two governments in 1984, China has provided a total of 213 scholarships to Guyanese students.
