The China-Caribbean Development Center was inaugurated in Jinan

On July 6,the China-Caribbean Development Center was inaugurated in Jinan, capital of China's Shandong Province, which is expected to strengthen China's cooperation with the Caribbean countries. Li Ganjie, Secretary of Shandong Provincial Party Committee, and Xie Feng, Vice-Minister of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC, attended the event. Mr Li jointly unveiled the center with Madame Anyin Choo, Guyana’s ambassador to China.

In 2021, President Xi Jinping proposed the Global Development Initiative (GDI) at the 76th United Nations General Assembly. To implement the spirit of the initiative, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi announced the establishment of the China-Caribbean Development Center at the third Minister’sMeeting of the China-CELAC Forum. After several months of preparation, the China-Caribbean Development Center has already achieved some early results even before its official inauguration. In June this year, "Training Course on Fish Cage Culture in Guyana" was successfully held, which was the first bilateral training program of the Center.

Ambassador Guo Haiyan attended the inauguration ceremony via video link with Chinese envoys to other Caribbean countries, as well as Caribbean envoys in China, and put forward suggestions for deepening China-Caribbean cooperation with the Center as the link.

The China-Caribbean Development Center Training Base and the Caribbean Research Center of the University of Jinan were also unveiled.
