Chinese Film Festival in Celebration of 50th Anniversary Launched

Supported by the China Film Archive, the Chinese Embassy in Guyana officially launched the Chinese Film Festival at Movie Towne on June 22nd. More than 140 people attended the opening ceremony.

In her opening speech, Guo Haiyan, Chinese Ambassador to Guyana hailed the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties as a major milestone in China-Guyana relations, of which people-to-people exchanges constitute an important part. The two peoples are both contributors and beneficiaries of the friendship. The Chinese Film Festival is expected to deepen mutual understanding between the two peoples. China is willing to organize more colorful events and exchanges in culture and sports with the Guyanese side, for the China-Guyana friendship lasting from generation to generation.

Mr. Charles S. Ramson, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport praised the  successful relationship that has been built on trust and mutual understanding between Guyana and China. He said Guyana would continue to advance the relationship, built on mutual respect, with China to deliver greater benefits to the two peoples. He also spoke highly of China's great achievements in poverty alleviation and economic and social development.

Following the opening ceremony, the audience watched the opening film The Wandering Earth. 

The festival, set to last for five days, is free to the public. More films, including Nice View, Vanguard, Hi Mom, and White Snake and will be screened in the coming days.
